The Student Health Service has a Women’s Health Clinic which provides primary gynecologic care including PAP smears, contraceptive advice and prescriptions, and screening for sexually transmitted diseases. Appointments are available on Wednesday and Thursday every week during the fall and spring semesters. Available times vary during the summer sessions.

Gynecological exams with a PAP smear are recommended for all women beginning at age 21. Women between 21 and 30 years of age may have a Pap smear every two years as long as their Pap smears are normal. After age 30, recommendations are individualized.

This exam is important for prevention of disease and wellness information, discovery of reproductive system abnormalities, screening for early cervical changes related to cervical cancers later in life, screening for vaginal infections and sexually transmitted diseases, contraceptive information and advice, and treatment of other individual women’s health issues such as PMS, painful periods, etc.

The PAP smear, a cervical cancer screening test, is usually obtained during the gynecologic exam.
