Gynecologic care
Student Health Service offers a Women’s Health Clinic which provides primary gynecologic care including pap smears, contraceptive advice and prescriptions, and screenings for STIs.
- Appointments are available every weekday during the fall and spring semesters. Available times vary during the summer sessions.
- Once you book your appointment an electronic women’s health history form will be sent to your health portal. Please submit this before your appointment.
- If you have questions about women’s health issues (including gynecologic exams) you may make an appointment with a Student Health Nurse Provider.
Gynecological exams with a Pap smear are recommended for all women beginning at age 21. Women between 21 and 30 years of age may have a Pap smear every two years as long as their results are normal. After age 30, recommendations are individualized.
The importance of checkups
This exam is important for prevention of disease and wellness information, discovery of reproductive system abnormalities, screening for early cervical changes related to cervical cancers later in life, screening for vaginal infections and STIs, contraceptive information and advice, and treatment of other individual women’s health issues such as PMS, painful periods, etc.
